Even though I am still in shock, Graeme will be one this Wednesday!!! We decided to have a small gathering, and celebrate his first year of life as a true Carolina "born and bred" should.... with a Carolina Tailgate! I went to a tailgate/birthday party in the last few weeks of Graeme's pregnancy, and decided before he was born, what the theme of his first bday would be! ha I thought it was adorable, and what is more fitting for a Tarheel boy born in the Fall?!
I wish the weather had been a bit (aka: A LOT) cooler, and that we had been able to access a closer kitchen to the party. Other than a little disorganization on my part, I think the party went smoothly. It was wonderful to be surrounded by the people who love Graeme (and us) most, and celebrate a precious year of life. Graeme LOVED his cake, as you will see in pictures. He was literally double-fisting it at one point. Ceilidh loved having Zion, Aiden, and Hudson to play with. She did not stop running around even long enough to eat. They played Corn Hole ALL afternoon! Thank you Filars for letting us borrow your games! They were a BIG hit.
I was pretty proud of myself today for making hot wings for the very first time. I know this is not a hard thing to do; but ALL cooking is a challenge to me! ha I was nervous about trying them, but they turned out pretty well. Aiden gave me the best compliment of the day; "These wings are better than Hooters, Aunt Cyndy!" HA (My sister later promised me she is not taking her son to Hooters. They order take out. ha) Since I am now a wing expert (wink), be careful about saucing up the wings in a ziploc bag after they come out of the oven. Extreme heat and plastic bags don't go together well. I had a few sauce drippings on the floor as the wings were literally melting holes in the plastic bag! ha Besides dropping/kicking the icing coupler under the stove, we thankfully didn't have any cake issues this party. As I was panic-stricken, thinking I would not be able to finish his cake; Graeme thought it was pretty funny I was lying on the kitchen floor and started climbing all over me and laughing hysterically. Thankfully the trusty ole' broom swept the coupler right out, and I got back to icing.
We had a great time partying it up, and loving on him! We love you Graeme, aka: Graeme boy, Graeme burger, Buddy Graeme, Buddy!
P.S. THANK YOU to Susanna for most of my pictures. You are a great photographer and without you, I wouldn't have any photos of the party. I appreciate your help!
