We had a random photo shoot a couple of days ago, b/c Jane was just TOO cute in her little outfit. If the camera comes out, everyone has to get involved! wink Graeme told me "she looks like a Pops!" (Note the madras. HA) Pops and Jane both look pretty snazzy in their madras outfits.

Even though the beginning of our week was full of fun and photo shoots; Friday got a little hairy for a while. We had gotten in from story time, and I was in the kitchen starting the oven for lunch. Ceilidh and Graeme were already sitting in a pile of library books deciding which ones they wanted to read first. I called Lydia to talk for just a minute while the pizza was in the oven. C and G start arguing over a book (sadly, nothing unusual ;) ). Ceilidh runs into the kitchen with the book and I hear Graeme scream. Again, nothing unusual. I am thinking at this point, will talk to them both about respect, kindness, and sharing when I get off the phone. Then I hearing the "holding breath then shrieking cry" that only happens when one of them is legitimately hurt. When I get to Graeme, he is sitting on his knees by the coffee table, hunched over holding his eyes. When he looks up, blood is streaming down his face and neck; and pooling in his cupped hands. In a 15 second period, I hang up with Lydia (sorry again for the weirdo call Lyd! ha), have a mini internal freak-out session, pull it together on the outside, and start to inspect the damages. Thankfully, right away I could tell he is neurologically fine.... no black outs, was coherent, and his goose egg was popping out and not in. His eye seemed fine as well; there was just blood EVERYWHERE. I still wanted to make sure I did the right thing though, since it was a head "wound," and I didn't know if he would need stitches. I called his doctor to ask whether I should come in or go to the Emergency Department in case it needed stitching. They suggested I take him on the ED.
Great..... All three children, without lunch, going to the ED. At least Daddy was already there! ha I was still unsure whether we REALLY needed hospital attention. He had calmed down quite a bit, the bleeding had finally stopped; but it looked horrible. When we were pulling out of the neighborhood, a few paramedics were leaving a restaurant so I stopped them. HA They also suggested I take him in just to be on the safe side. So...... off we went. Thankfully the ED wasn't very busy and we got in and out fairly quickly. Of course, as soon as the doctor washed his head really well; it doesn't look that bad. I told him over and over I didn't want to be "that" person that came in for nothing, but he assured me I did the right thing. I still felt/feel a little silly; but oh well. Andrew has been jokingly giving me a hard time about taking him in, but I really did get advice from numerous medical professionals before doing so. I have nicknamed him our "resident doctor" since he would have known just what to do! wink Anyway... the doctor checked all his bones and told me he didn't even want to place a stitch b/c it might scar worse than what it is already going to. G-man was such a trooper and very brave. Thankfully all is well with Graeme. He might have a little scar around his eyebrow; but now he has a battle wound to talk about! The only real damage was the upfront $85 for a dab of neosporin and the anticipated physician bill coming. UGH!
Once everyone was finally fed and down for a nap; I felt like somebody had punched me in the stomach. He was totally fine... I am not trying to be dramatic; but just the fact I had to take our two year old to the ED, is slightly unnerving. A good ole' McDonald's tea goes a long way in calming my nerves! HA Here's to a fun, yet safe weekend!

Poor Graeme! Glad it turned out OK. I would have done the very same thing... I took Natalie to the ED for a case of the throw ups... now who's overreacting?
