We knew she would be getting her boosters at this appointment, so we prepared for her receiving a shot or two. She obviously wasn't thrilled, but was totally fine; even skipping into the doctor's office. Everything was great as Jane weighed in at 17.8 pounds and Ceilidh weighed in at 41 pounds. Jane has gained 2 pounds and grown an inch since April. Ceilidh has gained 5 pounds and grown 3 inches since last year. My girls are growing!! wink We were still all smiles and giggles throughout the examination. Jane got her three shots (frown), and of course she became unglued, but finally calmed down to the point of 'snubbing.' I put her back in the stroller which elicited more crying, but I knew I had to deal with what was coming next.
And then, it happened. The nurse mentioned shot(s). Being prepared for one, maybe two at the most; I asked her how many she would need today. "Six." Excuse me?! Six shots at one time?! From this point until we walked out the door, Ceilidh was screaming and crying at the top of her lungs. Probably a good 30-35 minutes. Not doubting her expertise one bit, but I needed to hear from the Dr.'s mouth that 6 at one time were safe. He confirmed it was, and said that 7 was their limit. Great.... one shot away from the office's limit. He also told me that the immunizations had recently been individually made more effective, and b/c of that, they could not be coupled anymore. Mind you, Ceilidh is still clinging backwards to a chair that she has pushed Graeme out of and screaming at the top of her lungs.
It became clear there was no talking her down; we were just going to have to do it. Graeme is sitting in the chair in the corner with his hands over his ears and his eyes closed, Jane is screaming in her stroller, and Ceilidh is literally climbing up me and screaming with terror, "Don't let them do this to me!! Momma!! Don't let them do this!" Just typing it out, makes me tear up again. All I could do was repeatedly tell her I'm sorry and that she needs these shots to stay healthy and safe. There were three nurses and myself holding her, and she still walked away with a black and blue knot on her arm. Her arm looked so bad, and swelled so quickly; they sent me home with an ice pack from the office. frown
It was horrible.... the whole experience. Her begging me to stop them was the worst. The nurse sat with us for a few minutes afterwards to keep an eye on Ceilidh (and me! ha). She was very sweet, and I was thankful someone was with me to help calm every down. We were ALL a bit traumatized. ha We had already told Ceilidh that we would have a special treat after the appointment, so when she asked for chicken nuggets afterward; I gladly obliged. If she had asked for 5 apple pies that day, I probably would have given in! HA Jane ended up with a low-grade fever the next day, and Ceilidh ended up with some stomach issues that I won't go into detail about Tuesday morning. wink
I never take for granted their health, and I am thankful for their good report. I sure am glad that appointment is over though! Just to cheer this post up a little, I have an adorable picture of Jane's latest trick. She still could care LESS about crawling, but she scooches her little bottom everywhere. ha She also gives kisses, and says "book." It sounds more like "dook," but she is definitely associating a book with that sound.
How adorable is this?!
The homemade lemonade on Daddy's lips helped solicit quite a few kisses last night! wink |

I am so sorry about your experience. We had a similar one with our 3 smallest. The big ones could hear them screaming out in the waiting room. I hate shots worse than giving birth. At least you're done for awhile. Kisses to all the pokes :(
